Scalene 3D

Tkji: “Why did you start your own NFT launchpad?”

We began working on Scalene for several reasons.

  • Development costs for launching a generative collection of NFTs is way too high. An enthusiast in the space would be looking at spending up to $20,000 for 3D Art and $10,000 for Solidity / web3 Frontend. Followed by $6000 for a decent listing with a rarity tool and then likely at least $10,000 for marketing. This is before generating any revenue from NFTs. $46,000 investment.
  • 3D NFTs have more native/built-in use cases than Jpegs. With their application in 3D Printing, 3D Games and Metaverse. This is not the full list of use cases however. It also includes 3D Animation, Product design, Real-estate, architectural design etc. The opportunity for 3D NFTs is massive.
  • I've always liked creating things that help people get ahead in the world. Rather than working with major businesses in the past I’ve opted to work with small businesses because I find the energy suitable to my own, also the ideas tend to be more fresh and interesting, while also somewhat experimental and I think the NFT space needs innovation / experimentation more than it needs Blizzard / Facebook and Microsoft trying to run the show.

Sweetdevil: “Can you please explain the BUILD.PLAY.EARN tagline of the company?”

Yes, for sure. Build, Play, Earn is our slogan because it embodies our goals but also the way that the platform is setup. I’ve attached the platform flow to this question to show that “Build” is the Scalene tech stack that helps users create NFT collections, but also minting pages, rarity tools and eventually our own smart contract library. “Play” is the ecosystem that each NFT operates in. It could be Metaverse(s) or 3D Games, or something that we haven't even thought of yet.

Play should be fun and engaging and keep your NFT collection from getting shredded too quickly. This could be play-to-earn mechanics, it could be quality of design, it could be tokenized APY that is associated with the NFT collections and so on. “Earn” is somewhere between Play and the NFT Shredder. Eventually the token deposits are withdrawn from an NFT and either used for staking in LPs, trading to others interested in building or teaming up with others to create a new NFT project.

MraQua: asks “How and by what means can Floof NFTs be converted to shards and at what rate? Is the conversion rate at my request or a fixed amount?”

I’ll assume you mean 3D Tokens for this question because the only way to get shards currently is via Minting @ Smart contract. The NFT Shredder that we’re building will be able to convert both Shards and NFTs to 3D Tokens. This is a one way trip. Once an NFT or Shard is converted it cant go back to those original forms, but it can be used to create something new. We are likely going to need to take extra time to build the NFT shredder, as it could potentially hold several million dollars worth of tokens and it must be audited by a highly credible and thorough entity. Its likely this will be an unavoidable expense and I wouldn’t have it another way.

In terms of the conversion rate, each NFT has a 3D Token trait. This acts like a claim slip and tells you how much 3D Token you’ll receive for Shredding it. There has been discussions around Shredding fees, but I think it is best to avoid this. That said it is possible that the Shredder could have daily, weekly or monthly limits on how much NFTs can be shredded in a given period of time. This is to avoid market manipulation mainly, but more discussion into this with the developers is needed to determine what is fair and safe for limits.

Bahram: “According to the schedule, what is the stage of making the game?”

I was waiting for this question, thank you Bahram. When we originally launched we did have this grand vision of creating our own 3D NFT game and we brought on a 3D Game developer and made some headway into it. We developed Scalene Jets and Havoks for the game and locked large sums of tokens into these NFTs. Then our game developer went MIA, and it caused a fair bit of stress.

I’ll make it clear though. 3D Games is very much part of our vision for Scalene. We want to do it, but it is difficult currently with our limited funding to both work on the game and also work on the NFT Launchpad. The NFT Launchpad is necessary for our 3D Token to launch, so we have put our resources into this endeavor first. Once we have raised enough funds and the launchpad is public and running well. We will continue to work toward launching our own game with all the original plans, although likely better graphics ;)

AMA Discussion:

BildoBaddins: Imagine virtually touring the blueprints and floorplans of a new development in scalene to get an idea of spacing and scale. That’s a super attractive prospect for a real life application I hadn’t heard of yet. o.o
Cant do that with a jpeg i’ll tell you!

Garrett: Yes exactly. Imagine buying an NFT of a home that is a development plan by an architectural firm and also related to the physical version of your home.

You have the 3D design that is metaverse compatible and also 3D Game compatible. and then also the physical version.

Would be neat for a web3/metaverse version of the Sims!

Architects also love to make small variations on a few designs, which is going to be available functionality when we launch V1

BildoBaddins: I love how multifaceted this has become.

Garrett: We make the lowest level (computationally speaking) launchpad that can create anything, and it is the users who determine what gets built and what is most interesting

BildoBaddins: my roommates in marketing. I was explaining a few things about scalene to him and he’s impressed at the scope of Scalene’s versatility. My question after braining out with him is, “what’s the end goal of the scalene project beyond being its own fully functioning platform?” Like say Remax or some big real estate company wanted in for the 3d home tour package by creating them on scalene and decided they want to own the software they like it so much. Or planning to stay like an indie dev kit with affordability on its side. I get that the possibilities are kind of endless but there must be a certain point where the Scalene team envisions calling the project a success?

Garrett: So what we’re building is an NFT Generation API. We setup this API within our launchpad but it would be possible to offer an SDK as well. Which would allow companies to create their own frontends. But you also hit on something that is on our minds as well. We’re innovative today, but we need to be forward focused to ensure that we are innovative for the years to come, so we are constantly asking ourselves “what's the next, next big thing?” “What gives us more competitive edge versus potential competition?”

BildoBaddins: For sure. just by being around the short time I have I can tell there’s a genuine passion to be ahead of the curve. I think you guys are brilliant and scalene is very exciting

Garrett: I think in the short term (6–12 months) we’d like to delve into texture tinting. I know this may not sound super exciting but it adds another fairly decent feature to the system. Right now we can do material randomization which includes colors, metallic, gloss, emission and opacity. Texture tinting would allow designers to create high resolution and high quality textures, then upload them into the system and we would essentially download the texture jpeg/png, then add filters to it so that each textured NFT could be similar but unique. Obviously when combined with multiple texture options it would make the collections much more interesting.

Going back to the architecture example, this would allow for multiple color options for granite counter tops or marble flooring, and it would look and feel like actual granite or marble.

BildoBaddins: o.o

Garrett: And for Metaverse Avatars, you’d be able to keep a logo on the hoodie instead of an all yellow or all red hoodie

BildoBaddins: I look forward to seeing the updated textures and more!

About Scalene

$3D Token is fuel for the Scalene Metaverse NFT System based on the Polygon blockchain (ERC-20). Scalene, founded in 2021 as an innovator in the NFT ecosystem and aims to push the boundaries of what is currently possible.

3D NFTs are the future of the metaverse and can be used to create anything from buildings and infrastructure to avatars. Scalene aims to provide proof of ownership for objects that will be deployable to any metaverse, as well as 3D play to earn games.
